Solar Eclipse

I was lucky enough to witness my first solar eclipse.  I didn't even have to travel to see it!  I used my Nikon D40 with 3 stacked filters (6 ND, CP, and a Hoya R72).  When sighting the sun in I used a shade 14 welding glass to protect my eye.  I then closed my eye, removed the glass, and snapped the picture.  This is a very amateur attempt to photographing a solar eclipse and I DON'T recommend anyone try it this way.  I did however get decent results!  I did do some color correction in paint.net.

Photo taken with Nikon D40 with Hoya R72 filter.  This is one of my first IR photos.  The shutter was held open for about a second.

Sierra Snow Panoramic

Finally got around to stitching together some pictures from LAST winter.  Sadly we have hardly had any snow so far this year.  This picture was taken at Snowshoe lake in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, with my Nikon D40 with the 18-55 kit lens and polarizing filter.

Panoramic Mt. Whitney

Today I was going through some pictures and came across some from my hike up Mt. Whitney.  I ascended the Mountaineers route and took this panoramic from the slabs just below Upper Boy Scout Lake.  The view from here was breathtaking and pictures don't do it justice!

Some pictures I took last year of the Yuba river in the Sierras.

This one was taken at Lake Alpine up Highway 4
